Hepatitis

What is Hepatitis?

The word hepatitis simply means ‘inflammation of the liver’.  There are lots of different reasons why your liver might become inflamed, for example drinking too much alcohol; the side effects of some medications; autoimmune diseases; bacterial infections and viral infections.  Hepatitis A, B and C are caused by viral infections.

Hepatitis Symptoms

Often Hepatitis A, B and C infections have no symptoms or symptoms can take a long time to develop (in particular Hepatitis B and C).  However, symptoms can include tiredness, nausea, abdominal pain, fever and jaundice, amongst others.

In August 2011, Community Response created two informational Hepatitis clips. Click here to view a short clip on the immune system and click here to view the clip on the liver and Heptatis.
