Understanding and responding to the sexual health and wellbeing needs of gbMSM

Gay and bisexual men, and men who have sex with men (gbMSM) are disproportionately affected by HIV in Ireland, accounting for more than half of all new HIV diagnoses over the past number of years. This one-hour introductory webinar will navigate you through understanding, and responding to, the HIV prevention and sexual health needs of gbMSM, including:

– the trends in HIV diagnoses amongst gbMSM;
– what is safer sex now for gbMSM and the importance of the continuum of care in preventing new HIV acquisitions;
– the issues and challenges arising for gbMSM that impact on sexual behaviour and vulnerability to acquiring HIV and STIs;
– services and supports available at HIV Ireland’s MPOWER Programme; and
– improving linkages to services and supports.

HIV: Stigma & Discrimination

Advancements in HIV medications now means that people with HIV can live long and healthy lives; and medications also prevent the onward transmission of HIV.

Despite this good news, HIV-related stigma and discrimination continue to remain issues which adversely and deeply affect many people living with HIV. Stigma and discrimination are also major barriers to testing, treatment uptake, adherence to medication, and seeking support.
