Welcome to HIV Ireland’s e-Learning Courses.  We have developed two modules:

  1. HIV Prevention in Ireland
  2. HIV: Stigma and Discrimination

Who is the training for?

These online education and training programmes will be beneficial to health, social and community-based care professionals working with people more vulnerable to acquiring HIV and with people living with or affected by HIV; professionals working across a range of services including, but not exclusive to:  Sexual Health Workers, Health Advisers, Drug Service Providers, LGBT Services, Education Sector, Youth Services, Housing/Homeless Services, Migrant Services, Traveller Community Health Projects, GPs, Mental Health Practitioners, Counsellors, Social Workers, Nurses.

How much does the training cost?

It’s free, thanks to the support of our funders: The HSE National Lottery Fund, The Community Foundation for Ireland RTE Comic Relief Fund, and the North Inner City Drugs & Alcohol Task Force.

How to sign up and get started:

  1. Visit www.traininghub.ie
  2. On the home page, select one of HIV Ireland’s online training courses: ‘HIV Prevention in Ireland‘ or ‘HIV: Stigma and Discrimination‘.
  3. If this is your first time on Training Hub, you will be asked to create a free account. (Note: if you already have an account, you will need to sign-in).

HIV prevention is in the midst of an exciting chapter: we now have all the tools we need to end new HIV acquisitions.

Join us for this free online education and training to help you learn about all the HIV prevention options we have available in Ireland, to equip you with the knowledge and confidence to have conversations about HIV, and to support service users to make informed choices about their health.

This interactive training includes videos, exercises and quizzes to equip you to become better at, and feel confident, supporting service users.

How long is the training?

This online training programme will take 45 to 60 minutes to complete. You can complete the course in one go or over a series of sittings – whatever works best for you.

What do I get on completion?

As well as a host of new information and skills to inform your work with service users, you will receive a certificate on completion of the training.

Learning Outcomes

We hope at the end of this programme you will:

  • Know how HIV is acquired or transmitted.
  • Understand the trends in HIV diagnoses in Ireland and the population groups that are more vulnerable to HIV acquisition.
  • Have increased knowledge about all of the HIV prevention options available in Ireland, including testing, medication to prevent HIV (PEP, PrEP) and HIV treatment as prevention.
  • Have the knowledge and confidence to support service users to make informed decisions about preventing new HIV acquisitions and transmissions.
  • Be able to refer service users to appropriate HIV prevention, treatment and support services.

Despite significant advances in HIV treatment and prevention, HIV-related stigma and discrimination continue to remain issues which adversely and deeply affect many people living with HIV.

Join us for this free online education and training to help you learn more about HIV-related stigma and discrimination, its impact on people living with HIV, how to challenge it, how to support service users and how to create a safe and welcoming environment for people living with, or affected by, HIV.

Together we can get to Zero Stigma and Zero Discrimination.

  • Understand the causes and effects of HIV-related stigma, and the challenges faced by people living with HIV.
  • Understand how to challenge attitudes, values and beliefs that can influence the way people living with HIV are perceived and/or treated.
  • Have increased knowledge of HIV-related discrimination and the law in Ireland.
  • Understand the importance of appropriate language use when dealing with HIV-related issues.
  • Have the knowledge and confidence to support service users who may feel stigmatised and/or discriminated against.
  • Be able to refer service users to appropriate support services.
